MSN scenario

It is 10:00 pm on a Wednesday night; you have finished your homework and you are chatting on MSN with three other friends. After 10 minutes two more friends ask to join the chat. By 10:30 pm five more people have joined and it is fun; however, there is a joke said about one of the people, rapidly followed by an insult. At first, no one knows how to respond, and then seconds later a message pops up stating, “I didn’t say that! It isn’t me saying these things. Someone is using my name. What is going on here?”

What is the issue involved in this scenario? Why is this serious?

The issue is that a person is appearing to be talking when it's not really them. This is serious because a person can get into a lot of trouble when it wasn't even them and someone else should get the blame. In addition the person who really did it is sort of in a “disguise” because they were appearing as another person.

What would be a responsible way to handle this situation?

I think that people should be honest in situations like this, and the person who did it should admit that it was him/her. I think that in the long run this would make a much less trouble for more people than only themselves.

How could a situation like this be resolved? How would one of the three main characters from The Revealers deal with this situation? One of characters from The Revealers would defiantly post a story to the all of the middle school about the issue. I think they would do that because that's what they did to deal with most of their problems they had. A nice way to resolve a situation like this would be to simply say the word "sorry" to the person getting made fun of and the person they used to send the information out.
