Here's my current event:
Millennium Development Goals
1. Summary
In the year 2000 all the member states of the United Nations (UN) agreed on some Millennium Development Goals (MDG) which they would try to reach before 2015. They wanted to reduce the number of people who live in hunger and extreme poverty, increase the number of children going to school, reduce the number of children dying of different diseases, improve the health for mothers giving birth, and have more equality between men and women. Bangladesh is also trying to reach the MDG. Bangladesh has built more schools for children and the number of poor people has decreased. The number of children dying before the age of 5 has also been reduced. But there are still many poor people in Bangladesh, and many people without a job. There are also many women dying when they give birth, because they don’t have enough hospitals. Another problem is the lack of clean and safe drinking water. The Government of Bangladesh says that they need more help from other countries to reach the MDG.
2. How is this related to population?
The MDG are supposed to give the population a better life. This can be done by improving education and health for everyone. It would also help if the population was reduced. Bangladesh has140 million people and there are not enough jobs or schools or hospitals for everyone. Bangladesh is also a small country and has very little land for 140 million people to live on. Therefore many people live in crowded slums. There is not enough safe drinking water either. Bangladesh is overpopulated in relation to its land and natural resources.
